PARADISE RESCUE KENNELS

Our goal is to find loving, responsible, and safe homes where our dogs can thrive for the rest of their lives. Every dog in our care has already been through so much, and it’s our responsibility to ensure their next chapter is the very best one.

Below is an overview of how our adoption process works. Please read it carefully before completing the application form.

OUR ADOPTION PROCESS

1. Complete the Adoption Application

Please fill in every section of the online application form (at the bottom of this page). You must include clear photos and videos of your home, showing both the inside and outside, including all entrances and exits. If it is easier, you can send these via whatsapp if your application is approved.
Please note, we cannot proceed unless the application is fully completed and the requested visuals are included.

2. Video Call

Once your application has been reviewed, a team member will contact you to schedule a video call. This is a chance for us to learn more about you, answer any questions you may have, and help ensure the best match between you and our dogs

3. Home Check

If the previous steps go well, we will arrange a home check. Whenever possible, we’ll carry this out in person. However, as we’re working to expand our adoption network, we may need to do this virtually, depending on your location.

4. Moving Forward with the Adoption

If everything is approved, we will move ahead with the adoption process.

  • If you’re based in Spain, you will be invited to collect your dog from our centre.

  • If you’re located outside Spain, we will discuss transport options with you.
Please note that transport costs are covered by the adopter.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS (FAQs)

Q: How much is the adoption fee?

A: The fee depends on the country the dog is travelling to, as each has different vaccination and transport requirements. This will be discussed during your video call. Please note that we do not make a profit from adoption fees—we subsidise a large part of the cost ourselves.

Q: What will the dog have before arriving?

A: Every dog will come:

  • Vaccinated against rabies and with their yearly vaccine (which protects against distemper, adenovirus, parvovirus, and parainfluenza)

  • Sterilised/neutered (if of appropriate age and in good health)
Puppies or dogs with health concerns may be exceptions to sterilisation, but this will be discussed in full.

  • Tested for Mediterranean diseases (results will be shared)

  • Microchipped

  • With a valid EU pet passport

Q: How long does the adoption process take?

A: We aim to complete the process as quickly as possible. If you’re in Spain, it’s usually faster due to fewer travel requirements. For international adoptions, the timeline depends on transport availability, health checks, and neutering status. Each case is different, but we always strive for efficiency.

Q: Are there any countries you don’t adopt to?

A: Currently, we only adopt to Spain, the UK, Belgium, and the Netherlands, as these are the countries where we have trusted team members or reliable partners on the ground. We work closely with other rescue groups operating in these areas to ensure our dogs are safely and responsibly rehomed. While we hope to expand to more locations in the future, we are not able to accommodate adoptions to other countries at this time, particularly where we do not have back-up, foster homes, or local support in place. Our priority is always the long-term safety and well-being of the dogs.

Q: Can I choose any dog I want?

A: In short—not always. We do our best to match each dog to the home where they are most likely to succeed. Some dogs are more adaptable than others. If you have your heart set on a specific dog, we’ll discuss if it’s a good match. If not, we may suggest dogs better suited to your situation. Our priority is the welfare of the dogs and ensuring a good fit for both sides.

Q: Why is the home check necessary?

A: Every step in our process is important. If you’re unwilling to engage in it, then sadly you’re not the kind of adopter we’re looking for. These checks help us ensure our dogs go to the best possible homes after everything they’ve been through. It’s also about making sure the adoption works for your family.

Q: Who pays for transport?

A: If your dog needs to travel internationally, the adopter will cover transport costs. This will be explained during your adoption discussion. For adoptions in Spain, it is the responsibility of the adopter to collect the dog from us.

Q: Can you cat-test the dogs?

A: We can often give an idea of how a dog reacts to cats based on what we observe, but we can’t guarantee how a dog will behave in a home. Many of our dogs were bred for hunting small animals, so caution is always advised.

Q: I won’t be ready to adopt for another 6 months. Should I still apply?

A: Please wait until you’re fully ready. Your circumstances may change, and our time is limited. We kindly ask that you apply only when you’re in a position to adopt.

Q: Can we visit the centre?

A: Unfortunately, we don’t have the capacity to accommodate general visits. If your application is approved, you may be invited to the centre. If you already know which dog you’re adopting, you will come to collect them. If the match hasn’t yet been confirmed, you may be invited to meet a few potential dogs. Please understand that visits are by invitation only — we are a very small team looking after a large number of dogs, and our time must be focused on their care.

Q: Can I bring my dog to the centre to meet potential new dogs?

A: We’re unable to allow visiting dogs onto the premises. If your application is approved, you’ll be invited to meet the dog you’re interested in, but unfortunately we cannot facilitate introductions between your current dog(s) and rescue dogs at the centre.

Q: Can I bring people with me when I visit?

A: We ask that you keep the number of visitors to a minimum. Ideally, two people should attend. Too many people can be stressful for the dogs and may affect how they behave during introductions. If you have children, we’ll discuss this with you when arranging your visit, and decide together what’s best for the dog and your family.

Q: Can I meet my dog and take them home on the same day?

A: This may be possible in some cases — especially if you’re travelling from far away and are meeting a specific dog who is ready for adoption. However, we cannot guarantee same-day adoption. This is especially true if you are meeting several dogs. It’s also essential that your home is fully prepared before the dog leaves with you.
