Podencos are lively little dogs and thatβs why theyβll very soon have to move out of the Puppy House. The walls arenβt high.
Podencos are climbers and theyβre also jumpers so itβs just a matter of time before theyβll be over the wall and wreaking havoc in the garden. Theyβre cheeky lovable scallywags and while theyβre still in the Puppy House, their little characters shine through but once theyβre in the big kennels theyβre vieing for attention with dozens of other dogs and become in danger of being another βanonymousβ dog.
Pepe, Pablo and Pancho are now 6 months old. I do hope thereβs a chance for them. Contact me. Mary-Ann Dunning

After 21 years of having an uncultivated field next to the kennels, someone has purchased it and is clearing all the old, poor quality soil ready to plant it, but just look at what theyβre doing. No damping down, the kennels, the house, car, in the houseβ¦β¦red dust everywhere. Today was the third day and itβs been relentless. Tomorrow itβs set to rain. Can you imagine what everywhere will look like?

I received a message from Beverley a week ago asking if we had five Galgos available for five potential adopters, whoβs homes had already been checked. Beverley has a rescue not far from us called Podenco Friends, but in the past has had to seek far and wide fo find Galgos.
On Thursday Beverley visited and the whirlwind of events started. She loved our Galgos and informed us that for many years she has worked with a Canadian group called GGPAC Greyhound Pets of Atlantic Canada.
Before Beverley had even left the kennels, she was on the phone to Canada, by the evening, Rhonda Martins the President of GGPAC, was in communication with us. Very quickly the four females were reserved, by Saturday Beverley had Vet appointments arranged for all the necessary preparation and by Sunday they were in her van and away from Paradise!
Rhonda, Beverley, Colleen and I are incredibly excited by this collaboration. We have more than enough Galgos for all our partners, we love to follow our dogs in the UK via PINS and our Sighthound Underground dogs in the USA and because GGPAC have lined up adopters, weβll be following our four girls as they head to Canada in 3-4 weeks. Thereβs always a pause in the winter months because of the freezing weather so there may be one more run before the winter and then in the Spring itβll be all go!
So this is what a whirlwind is like in the rescue world. Rhonda and some of the GGPAC GROUP have already joined our group, so a big welcome to you all.
Oh!β¦β¦..and check my next post, guess what arrived today?!!! π

Meet Red (Roja) our beautiful newly arrived Podenco. What a stunner!! Unlike many of the Podencos weβve had, heβs a confident adorable boy. He loves people and although in the photo he looks like heβs trying to escape, heβs actually trying to get nearer to Colleen and Jill for a cuddle. But nonetheless as with all Podencos, the instinct is there. They have the capability to scour fences and walls if theyβre not secure and high.
So the main photo is a great example of how cheeky the Pod can be.
Sadly for our boy, heβs being moved out to the main kennels where his pen will have a mesh roof. Not as much fun for him as the freedom of the Puppy House so letβs see who has a high wall whoβd love to be smothered in Podenco kisses. Letβs find him a home. x Contact me. Mary-Ann Dunning

Colleen was up with the lark and caught in her dressing gown when her first visitor came, but more about that in a separate post because we have some exciting news for you.
I went through with Alan Dunning to meet our second visitor, Moni Ka one of PINSβ fosterers who is over here to volunteer at another rescue.
Next week our big red Podenco Pharoah is going to Uk and will be living with Monica under the PINS banner so it was lovely for her to meet him and also to be able to have a wander round the kennels.

This made me cry. I just had to share it with you all. Xx
Once I was a lonely dog,
Just looking for a home.
I had no place to go,
No one to call my own.
I wandered up and down the streets,
in rain in heat and snow.
I ate what ever I could find,
I was always on the go.
My skin would itch, my feet were sore,
My body ached with pain.
And no one stopped to give a pat
Or to gently say my name.
I never saw a loving glance,
I was always on the run.
For people thought that hurting me
was really lots of fun.
And then one day I heard a voice
So gentle, kind and sweet,
And arms so soft reached down to me
And took me off my feet.
"No one again will hurt you"
Was whispered in my ear.
"You'll have a home to call your own
where you will know no fear."
"You will be dry, you will be warm,
you'll have enough to eat
And rest assured that when you sleep,
your dreams will all be sweet."
I was afraid I must admit,
I've lived so long in fear.
I can't remember when I let
A human come so near.
And as she tended to my wounds
And bathed and brushed my fur
She told me 'bout the rescue group
And what it meant to her.
She said, "We are a circle,
A line that never ends.
And in the center there is you
protected by new friends."
"And all around you are
the ones that check the pounds,
And those that share their home
after you've been found."
"And all the other folk
are searching near and far.
To find the perfect home for you,
where you can be a star."
She said, "There is a family,
that's waiting patiently,
and pretty soon we'll find them,
just you wait and see."
"And then they'll join our circle
they'll help to make it grow,
so there'll be room for more like you,
who have no place to go."
I waited very patiently,
The days they came and went.
Today's the day I thought,
my family will be sent.
Then just when I began to think
It wasn't meant to be,
there were people standing there
just gazing down at me.
I knew them in a heart beat,
I could tell they felt it too.
They said, "We have been waiting
for a special dog like you."
Now every night I say a prayer
to all the gods that be.
"Thank you for the life I live
and all you've given me.
But most of all protect the dogs
in the pound and on the street.
And send a Rescue Person
to lift them off their feet."

On Friday when Colleen went to the shop to prepare it for opening yesterday, she wasnβt expecting to find things in the store room to be floating in inches of water!!! The landlordβs flat upstairs had sprung a leak so she and Satu JΓ€rlbrink set too with their mops and buckets and they were ready in time for opening time, yesterday morning.
It was lovely for Colleen to be visited in the shop by our good friend Brigitte At Large who came bearing gifts. Anti Tick and flea pipettes. Gold dust to us! Denise Anderson who helps in the shop, brought a tin of change from Chas and Jayne Tuffey from the Bar at the Caravan Park in Albatera.
Then along came Sue Maskill with some bedding and when she got back to the kennels, Tommy Cunningham arrived with a carload of shop donations.
Thank you all for helping make Colleenβs day get betterβ¦β¦.but! β¦β¦β¦..
It didnβt stop there!!! Look who arrived with the truck load of bedding from Lorraine Jacques-goodacre and Julie Hills in the UK. Our great friend and supporter Steve John Howells from Howells & Son cargo and Freight company. How great is that. Thank you all so much!
So by the end of yesterday, with all this excitement, a few inches of water became a dim and distant memory x

I would also have posted lots of posts and pics of whatβs going on but I need to ask you to bare with me for a while. Iβm not sure if youβre aware that Team Paradise is actually very small. Colleenβs all the hands on kennel work, Vets visits etc and with a small group of ladies runs our shop. Jill works as a volunteer in the Puppy House and Denise Roe (Dee) volunteers once a week to work around the kennels.
I do all things admin. I work on our various FB pages, prepare dogs for travel, do homechecks, vet visits, fund raising, rehoming, collecting, deal with messages 24/7, etc, etc. It all takes up a lot of time and in normal circumstances, this is not a problem, but currently in my house, we donβt have normal circumstances, so for a wee while, Iβm having to step back a bit.
It usually takes me 2-3 days to collate everything for the thank yous, but try as I may, I canβt manage this at the moment. Iβm really sorry about this as weβre so appreciative of your amazing generosity and youβre all so deserving of a mention on our page, but right now, I just canβt manage it. Iβm so sorry π
I usually go to peoples homes to collect bedding etc but as I canβt get over to the kennels at the moment, rather than message me, can I ask you to take it to Bonnie Burford at the Post Room, BenijΓ³far please? (Dee will collect it and bring it to the kennels every Monday). Or you can leave it by the main gates at the Kennels or to our shop in La Murada on Saturday and Sunday mornings. Jon Peers also will take donations at Siesta Group on the N332 at Cabo Roig.
Once again. Iβm so sorry. Hopefully normal service will resume as soon as possible xx
